Description

Colt, Model: M1911A1, Cal: .45 ACP, MFG: 1940, S/N: 720501, Semi-auto pistol, 5'' barrel. The replaced, plastic faux-pearl grips are excellent. The blued metal finish on the frame rates 70% with almost full coverage, just areas of thinning. The blued metal finish on the slide rates 75% with almost full coverage just areas of thinning, there is one small spot of cleaned light pitting right next to the rampant colt logo on the left side. The darker tone on the front 1/3 of the slide is from that part being hardened to help increase its strength, leading to the metal holding onto the bluing better than the un-hardened section. The left side of the slide is marked with colts patent dates, the rampant colt logo, & ''COLT'S PT.F.A.MFG.CO.'', ''HARTFORD.CT.U.S.A.''. The right side of the frame is marked ''UNITED STATES PROPERTY'', ''M1911A1 U.S. ARMY'', the S/N, & a ''69'' on the trigger guard. The left side of the frame is marked ''CSR'' by the slide catch, its the inspector stamp for Major Charles S. Reed, who was a Army Ordinance inspector at colt from 1938-40. there is a ''P'' mark by the mag release button which is just a basic proof mark. The left side of the trigger guard is marked with a ''T'', & a ''VP'' in a triangle stamp which is the colt verified proof factory inspection stamp. The top of the barrel is marked ''COLT .45 AUTO''. The bore is very good. Its bright & mirror like with light rifling thinning. The slide holds a wide blade front sight with a U-notch rear sight. Pistol comes with one mag marked ''C-S'' on the bottom of the floorplate & ''S'' on the upper part of the floorplate. A very nice example of a early war colt & one of the last blued M1911's for the military. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 600 to 1200
