HISTORY: In 1914, The Argentine military adopted the Colt M1911 as their standard military sidearm and contracted with Colt to supply the pistols, about 2000 of these pistols would be delivered between 1914 & 1919. in 1923 the Argentina government passed a armaments bill that would eliminate Argentine dependency on foreign arms, with that the Argentine Congress authorized appropriations for a military modernization program and prepared the infrastructure for a domestic arms industry, they would establish a Aircraft factory in 1927, a munitions factory in 1933, a steel mill in 1934, & a small arms factory in 1936, all of them would be managed by Argentine army officers. In 1927 the government would negotiate a contract from colt for 10,000 pistols that were specially marked & in their own S/N range. They would also acquire all the tooling, machines, drawings, & plans to produce their own pistols from colt, as well as the licensing. The 10,000 pistols from colt would arrive between 1927 & 1933. Production of the Sistema Colts began in 1927, and 14,000 were produced by 1942. in 1945, a new factory was finished (FMAP) & would produce just under 90,000 pistols to 1966. these pistols are identical to 1911A1 pistols produced by Colt, with parts being totally interchangeable from colt production. They were made using top quality steel & are just as strong & reliable as the Colts. They were used be the military & government until the 1990's when they were replaced by the Browning high power. When these pistols were surplused they were re-arsenaled & sold to the US market.
