Eibar Spain, Model: Republic ''Ruby'', Cal: 7.65 (.32 ACP), MFG: 1914-20's, S/N: 44066, Semi-auto pistol, 3 1/4'' barrel.
HISTORY: At the beginning of WW1 France would increase its military size by 2.9 million men, creating a massive strain to arm & supply those same men. The standard issue pistol for France at that time was the 1892 Ordnance revolver. Even with production of this revolver starting in 1892, the French government soon realized that the stockpile & production capacity for this revolver was not going to be enough. As a stop gap for this problem they started to bring out the older model pistols from storage for use with rear line troops, guy who wont really be shooting their guns much but still needed to be armed, and gave the newer pistols to the front line. At the same time France had the manufacture of the 1892 switch to full rifle & machine gun production, as they were in even greater need. Even with the older pistols in use the demand for pistol was continually growing & France would need more, FAST. At this time Spain was on of the largest manufactures of cheap civilian firearms in Europe. One of the copy's Spanish gun manufactures were making was a copy of the Colt made, browning design, Colt 1903 browning hammerless pocket pistol. France would soon notice the copy's made by Gabilondo y Urresti of Guernica, their trade name for the pistols was Ruby. This pistol made by Gabionade would be adopted by France and they contract for them to make 10,000 pistols a month, this would be upped to 30,000 pistols a month by the third quarter of 1915. this amount of pistols would be too much for Gabilondo to produce so they would turn to other manufactures in Spain to help fill the numbers. Gabilondo was to receive all the guns and check them for serviceability, then send them along to France. Soon other company's would catch on to Frances need for pistols & would start selling their pistols to France. The quality of the pistols would vary drastically, with some being excellent to some being down right unsafe to fire. Anyone looking to shoot a original ruby pistol should have it inspected by a gunsmith before firing.
CONDITION: The checkered wood grips are very good. They have darkened from oils & age. Grips also have light wear & a few small chips. The metal was left in the white & has a added on lacquer finish. The right side of the frame is marked with the S/N. the bottom of the pistol grip is marked ''MADE IN SPAIN''. The bore is very good. Its bright with roughness. The slide holds a blade front sight with a V-notch rear sight. Pistol comes with one mag that's marked ''AK'' in a circle. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 200 to 400
