US, Imperial Knife Co., M5 Bayonet & sheath. The blade appears to have been redone at some point, it looks to have been done at a military arsenal. The blade retains almost full finish coverage with wear & thinning on the edges. The blade also has constant cleaning pitting all over it & under the finish. The guard & pommel also retain about full finish coverage with wear on the edges. The black plastic grips have light use wear. The top of the guard is marked ''U.S. M5'', ''IMPERIAL'', & there is a faint Defense Acceptance Stamp. The sheath has dings, scratches, & wear. The sheath is marked ''U.S.M8'', ''B.M.CO.''. ''HANCE'' is hand etched into the back of the sheath. The M5 bayonet was the replacement for the M1 bayonet, for use with the M1 Garand. The biggest note about the M5 bayonet is that all the parts are made from stampings, making them far fast & cheaper to produce. The other changes were switching the blade style to that of the M4 bayonet, & changing the barrel loop to a stud that locks into the front of the gas cylinder lock screw.
