US, South Korean modified, M1 Bayonet (M5). The blade retains almost full finish cover with spots of thinning & light rust forming. The guard & pommel also retain about full finish coverage with spots of wear. The black plastic grip has scuffs & light chips. There are no visible markings on the guard. There is a faint ''A'' hand etched into the right side of the blade. The sheath has scuffs, scratches, chips, & wear from use. The sheath is marked ''U.S.M8A1'', ''VIZ''. During the Korean war, the south Korean forces received many weapons & supplies from the US, this included M1 Garands & the M1 bayonets. The Korean forces being shorter in stature did not like the longer blade profile of the M1 bayonets & much preferred the shorter & slimmer, M4 Bayonets. Many M1 bayonets would be modified & have their blade profiles cut down & shaped after the M4 Bayonet. The Korean designation for the modified bayonets would be M5.
