British, Sanderson Bros. & Newbould Ltd., Pattern 1907 Bayonet & Sheath. The blade has a few spots of patina, the guard & hilt have full finish coverage with spotty rust. The left side of the blader is marked ''1907'', ''9 18'', ''SANDERS'', & a very faint crown over ''G.R.''. The right side of the blade is marked with British proofs, ''1'', ''8'', ''X''. The leather/metal sheath has spots of rust, patina, the leather has darkened from oil/age, & has scuffs, but the sheath is fully intact. There are no visible markings on the sheath. Designed for the SMLE No.1 Mk.3in 1907. it was based after the Japanese Type 30 Bayonet, which Britain had obtained in 1906 for trials As originally produced, the Pattern 1907 bayonet had a hooked lower quillon, like the type 30, but in service it was unpopular & was removed from production in 1913. most of the older bayonets had their quillon removed, this one being produced in 1918, it was not made with one.
