British, No.7 Mk.1/L Bayonet, with sheath & frog. The blade has areas of cleaned pitting. The right side of the blade is marked with a arrow proof mark over ''NO7M.K.1/L''. The right side of the pommel is marked with a broad arrow proof over ''M47A'', the ''A'' appears partial with only the right half visible. The sheath has light rust speckling. The No.7 Mk.1/L Bayonet was designed to mount to the No.4 SMLE rifle & the Mk.5 sten. This bayonet addressed a number of desires Britan wanted for a bayonet over their previous designs. They wanted to replace the No.4 spike blade, which nobody really liked, & use the clip-point blade from the No.5 Mk.1 Bayonet. One other thing is that they wanted it to serve as a real fighting knife. Even though these bayonets would mount to a No.4 rifle, they were never issued to the rifles, only being used for ceremonial purposes & on the Sten guns. The ''M47A'' marking is the manufactures mark. There were four manufactures of the bayonet, BSA which used ''M47B'', Elkington which used ''M-78'', ROF Poole which used a ''P'' inside a circle, & ROF Newport which MFG mark is unknown. The ''M47A'' mark was used by BSA Small Heath during the war, but they did not make this model of bayonet. Grade: Excellent - Value: 100 to 300
