Japanese, Type 30 School/trainer Bayonet & sheath. The blade is bare steel with patina. The guard & pommel are toning brown. The wood grips have small chips & scuffs. The right grip has a metal tag that reads ''NO2''. The sheath has a black paint metal finish that's worn away in areas & toning to a rust brown. The sheath also has a few dings/dents, & has a small hole in one of the dents. Crudely made bayonet for use on school training rifles. School rifles and bayonets were used for military drill, which was a normal part of high school curriculum in Japan from the early 1930s through the end of the Second World War. School (or 'Trainer') rifles and bayonets were made in local workshops of scrap rifle parts, soft steel and cast metal. The rifles fired only blanks, caps, or were non-firing ''clicker'' models. The fit and finish of these bayonets are inferior to the Army issue pieces, as they weren't expected to stand up to the rigors of service use. Japanese Army and Naval Landing Forces used regular service bayonets for bayonet training. Grade: Very Good + - Value: 60 to 120
