Italian, M1938 Fixed blade bayonet & sheath. The blade has sheath wear. The guard & pommel have finish thinning & spots of rust forming. The spine of the handle is marked ''CG'' in a circle, ''29'' in a box, ''B56112''. The metal sheath has scratches, wear, & is starting to tone brown. The cast throat piece on the sheath is also has parts broken off. The first versions of the M1938 Carcano bayonet was very interesting, since it was a unique folding blade bayonet. Five versions of the bayonet have been observed, The first three versions have the folding blade, & the last two have a fixed blade. The folding feature intended the bayonet to remain fixed to the rifle all the time. This did not work well in practice, so the folding feature was discontinued and a scabbard provided. Non-folding (fixed) variants include examples constructed using earlier folding bayonet parts and examples newly-made as fixed bayonets. Grade: Excellent - Value: 80 to 160
