Description

French, Remington, No.5 Rolling Block Export Bayonet, with sheath & frog. The blade is bare steel, & has a few small spots of patina & sheath wear. Blade appears to have been lightly buffed/cleaned. The guard & pommel are also bare steel & have a few small spots of patina. The wood grips have light wear. The left side of the blade, inside the fuller is marked ''REMINGTON ARMS CO. ILION,N.Y.''. The sheath has spot of finish wear & is mostly starting to tone brown. The leather frog has cracking & wear from age/use. This is the long-blade variant of the knife/sword bayonet produced by Remington for use with the No. 5 military rifle. Remington produced 100,000 No. 5 rifles for France in 191516, chambered for the 8 mm. Lebel cartridge. The No. 5 military rifle was also made in large numbers for Mexico and many other countries in 7 mm. This example bears no French serial number, so it actually being a French bayonet is impossible to tell. However, this long-blade variant is most often associated with France. Grade: Excellent - Value: 100 to 300
