Description

Winchester, Model 1892, CAL: 218 BEE, MFG: 1919, SN: 868153, Lever Action Rifle, 24 1/4'' Round barrel. 1/2 Button mag. This 1892 rifle carries the Model 1892 three line stamping on the upper tang, but the rifle was at some point upgraded after 1937 with a model 65 .218 barrel, lower tang & lever. The barrel is marked Model 65 & carries both the oval ''WP'' & the oval ''P'' proof marks. According to a blog on the Winchester Arms Collectors Association website, ''Receivers & barrels having the ''WP'' in addition to the ''Oval P'' on the barrel would indicate a mail order barrel fitted outside the Winchester repair shop.'' The upgraded flat pistol grip wood stock & forend are excellent, with a small number of very minor contusions, scrapes & scratches to the excellent finish. The metal blue finish on the barrel & lever is a factory finish, rating 95%. The receiver & forend cap have been polished & reblued, likely at the time of the conversion, & they rate 80%. Bore is excellent. The barrel holds a Marbles adjustable rear sight & a Redfield blade front sight. Buttstock carries a checkered metal widow's peak shotgun buttplate. Interesting caliber conversion rifle. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 1000 to 2000
