Description

Winchester, Model 53, CAL: 25-20, MFG: 1926, SN: 962933, Lever Action Rifle, 22'' Tapered round barrel. 6 shot 2/3rds mag. In 1924, Winchester introduced the Model 53 lever-action rifle as a more modern version of the model 1892. Production lasted just 8 yrs until 1932, with limited production of approximately 15,000+. They were initially serialized separately, but in 1926-27 they were serialized with the 92 rifles that were still being assembled from remaining parts & later with the next generation model 65 rifles that along in 1933. The original straight grip wood stocks are excellent, with scratches, nicks & contusions. There is a short crack at the right shoulder corner of the wrist. The metal blue finish on the barrel rates 75%, while the receiver has worn mostly gun metal gray, with areas of a thin brown patina. Bore is excellent & bright. The rifle is fitted with an adjustable rear & updated front blade sights. Serrated metal buttplate. A nice example of a fairly rare model 53. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 1200 to 2000
