Description

Whitneyville Armory, Model Whitney-Kennedy Rifle, .44-40 Cal. MFG. 1879-1886, SN: N548, Lever Action Rifle, 24'' Octagon barrel, Full mag., Large Frame, Upper tang has the two line patent dates, while the serial number on the lower tang. Lever also SN'd to gun. The original wood stock is very good & solid, with numerous scrapes, scratches & contusions to the thinning original finish. The forearm is a modern replacement with few handling marks. There is a 1'' crack at the toe. The metal surfaces have worn to a combination of gun metal gray & a chocolate brown patina. Bore is good, with some roughness amongst strong rifling. Barrel carries an updated adjustable rear & a gunsmith combined small box/blade front sight on an old globe sight base. Stock carries a sliding trapdoor crescent buttplate. A fairly rare rifle as only 15,000 in both large & small frame, in all calibers. A must have for any antique lever collection. Antique No FFL Req. - Value: 1500 to 2500
