Description

CUSTOM Winchester Model 70, CAL: 270 WIN, MFG: 1955 PRE-64 action, SN: 341994, Bolt Action Rifle, 22'' Tapered round barrel. The rifle came out of the Byrd Pearson personal collection. Byrd Pearson was a well known custom stock maker & gunsmith. The custom deluxe, checkered, cheeked & capped pistol grip Monte Carlo stock is excellent. The stock is crafted from highly figured grafted Bastonian & English walnut, with fantastic contrasting grain. The hand carved & no border, wrap around, & 22 pt. fine checkering is excellent. There are very few tiny handling marks to the excellent finish. The pistol grip cap displays wonderful hand engraved scrolls. The custom barrel is stamped ''Bliss Titus'' & ''270''. Bliss Eugene Titus was a well known barrel maker & custom rifle builder who was born in 1899 & practiced his craft most of his adult life in Utah, after his military service. The high polish metal blue finishes on the barrel & receiver rates 99%, with a few tiny spots & very thin scratches to the floorplate. Bore is excellent. The receiver has four open holes from the removal of a previously mounted scope, while the barrel has no open sight provisions. Buttstock carries a finely checkered metal buttplate & sling studs. An early pre-64 model 70 action & a beautiful finely crafted custom rifle.* FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 2000 to 4000
