The Hamilton Rifle Co. Model 27 (Tip-up Model), 22 CAL (S. & L.), MFG: 1907-30, SN: NONE, Single Shot, Tip-up Break Action Rifle, 14 7/8'' round barrel. 29 1/2'' overall length. Circa 1906 through 1940's Cloverine Salve ran ads in comic books & newspapers asking kids to sell their salve & offering awards for the amount of product sold. The prizes include such pieces as this Hamilton rifle, a Red Ryder BB gun, toys & more. One of the first rifles offered in the Cloverine ads was the Hamilton Model 27 rifle. Other companies duplicated these award driven sales opportunities for kids selling magazines, seeds & other household items. The flat board, straight grip, walnut stained birch stocks on this example are good. They carry the original finish, which is thinning from use. The stocks also display a variety of scratches, dings & edge wear, along with a 2'' stress crack to the left side of the forend. Original metal blue finish is toning mostly to a brown patina, with 30% blue coverage remaining on receiver & with speckled rust & some light pitting mostly on the barrel. Steel rolled barrel over brass bore liner, 6 groove bore with 1 turn in 15''. Bore is very good, with some roughness amongst strong rifling. Blade front & early rear sight combination. ''S'' shaped trigger guard. Original steel buttplate. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 80 to 150
