Description

Remington, Model 4, .22 S.& L., MFG 1902-24, SN: J 303875, Rolling block single shot rifle. 22 1/2'' tapered octagon barrel. The model 4 was Remington's staple of a boys single shot rifle for over 40 years from 1890 to 1933 in several variation & evolutions. The model 4 began production in 1890 as a screw in fixed barrel, but it was change to a takedown with lever in 1902 until 1924 when it was changed again to a take-down screw. The wood stocks are very good & solid, but the finish has crinkle damage & is worn thin in other areas. There are numerous scratches, dings & scrapes. The original metal blue finish on the barrel is retained at 80%, while the receiver has toned to a dark gray/brown patina. Bore is very good. Barrel carries an adjustable rear & standard front sights. The stock carries a Remington/UMC metal buttplate. Although this example locks up pretty tight, the lever release take-down version was famous for not maintaining a tight lock, which is why it was later changed to a take-down screw. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 150 to 300
