Description

W.H. Davenport Firearms Co., Goose Gun, CAL: 8GA, MFG: 1890's-1900's, S/N: 0684, Break Action Single Shot Shotgun, 34 3/8'' barrel. The checkered, straight wrist wood stock & forend are good. The wood does not appear to have been sanded but oils have been added over the original finish over the years. The checkering is slightly worn from use but is still present. There is a 3 1/2'' crack on the left side of the forend starting from the forward edge. There is also a 1'' hairline crack on the left side of the wrist that emanated from the upper tang & goes downward. Stock ha a few more nicks, dings, dents, & scratches. The metal has toned to a even brown patina with spot of gun metal gray. There Damascus pattern on the barrel is still present & under the forend there is still some original bluing & a more clear Damascus pattern. The top rear of the barrel is marked ''THE W.H.DAVENPORT FIRE ARMS CO. NORWICH CONN U.S.A.'', ''PATENTED AUG 11 1896'', the lower tang is marked with the S/N. Bore is very good & bright, with roughness. The barrel holds a bead front sight. The stock carries a checkered plastic buttplate. Shotgun has no sling provisions.
