Tower London/Snider, Model: P1853 Short rifle Snider conversion, commercial sale , Cal: .577 Snider, MFG: 1860's-70's, S/N: None, Single shot rifle, 30 1/2'' barrel. The straight wrist wood stock is very good with some nicks, dings, dents, scratches & wear from use/age. The bottom of the wrist is marked with two crown proof stamps, the left cheek of the stock has a few faint crown proofs, & the right cheek of stock is stamped with a small ''AD''. The barrel is toning to a brown patina with spots of rust. The breech was left in the white. The left side of the barrel is marked with a British proof ''93'' two more proofs, & a faded ''27'' stamp. The left side of the receiver band is marked with a small start & another British proof, the top of the receiver band is marked with the Snider ''S'' pierced by arrow logo. The breech block is marked with a British proof &, ''SNIDER PATENT'' around a ''S'' pierced by arrow logo. The lock plate has been heavily buffed & clean, almost obliterating the makers & MFG mark, only visible markings is a ''T'' & the bottom half of ''1870'', crown marking is worn but still plainly visible. The bore is good. Its bright with some spots of roughness & thinned rifling. Bore is the early 3 groove rifling from converted muzzleloaders. The barrel holds a barleycorn front sight, & a stepped base ladder rear sight with a V-notch, base is marked 2 to 4, & the ladder is marked 5 to 11. rear sight is in its original forward position, when these were converted with the snider system the rear sight was normal moved back all the way to the breech. the stock carries a brass buttplate. Rifle has both sling loops & has a cleaning rod. A interesting snider converted P1853 musket with not normal markings that are seen on these rifle. Antique No FFL Req. - Value: 300 to 900
