RARE!! ROF Maltby, Model: No.4 Mk.1 T, Holland & Holland sniper conversion, Cal: .303 British, MFG: 1941, S/N: 18462, Bolt action rifle, 25 1/4'' barrel. Holland & Holland was one of the three factory's/company's that converted No4 Mk1 rifles into Sniper rifles. They converted the most rifles at over 21,000. The vast majority of converted rifles were made by BSA, but they converted some Stevens-Savage & apparently very few Maltby made rifles. The semi-pistol grip wood stock is very good as being sanded & oiled. The bottom of the wrist has a few illegible markings. The belly of the stock is marked ''S51'' which is the wartime code for Holland & Holland. Marking is faded & barely visible. The bottom of the stock near the muzzle is marked ''H.M.'', ''CO.LTD'' the marking is faded & hard to read. The top of the wrist is marked ''19671'' which is the same S/N on the scope. The black metal finish has compete coverage & rates 93% with areas of thinning & wear. The top of the wrist band is stamped with proof marks. The left side of the wrist band is marked ''ENGLAND'', the S/N, a faint ''FTR'' stamp & a faint ''TR'', the S/N, ''TR'' which stands for Telescopic rifle, meaning it was more accurate than the standard infantry rifle & was selected for conversion to a sniper. The left side of the receiver is marked ''F.M.NO.4.MK.1.1941''. The top of the receiver is marked with a British nitro proof. The scope mount is marked ''18462''. The lower & upper, rear scope rings are marked ''560''. The lower & upper , front scope rings are marked ''561' the bolt handle is marked ''P36133'' & does not match the rifle, the marking also appears to have been lightled buffed & re-finished over. The bore is excellent. Its bright & mirror like. Rifle has 5 groove rifling. The barrel holds a wide blade front sight with protective ears. The rear of receiver has a flip up, aperture ladder sight that's marked 2 to 13. rifle has mounted a No. 32 Mk3 scope that's marked ''TEL. STG NO.32 MK 3'', ''OS 2039A'' a overlapped double ''CTS'' stamp standing for Cooke, Troughton, and Simms, ''NO 19671''. The recital is clear. The stock carries a aluminum trapdoor buttplate. The trapdoor has nothing inside. Rifle has both bottom sling loops. & comes with a M1907 leather sling that's dated 1918, & a lens cover. A excellent example of a original WW2 British sniper.
