HISTORY: Thes rifles started life as single shot black power rifle back in the 1870s. It was the most advance & strongest action at the time & goes back to the 1860s from the Swiss. In 1887 they were updated by adding on a Vitali magazine to the rifle making it a repeater. In WW1 Italy was struggling with producing enough Carcano rifles, so they took the old Vetterli rifles, replaced the Vitali mag with the Carcano magazine & relined the barrel to 6.5mm using the Salerno method, named after the armory where the conversions took place at in Salerno Italy. The rifles were almost 50 years old by this time & were designed for black power, not the high pressure smokeless of the 6.5mm round. They were used & issued widely so they most certainly could take the pressure for at least some time. But today they are considered unsafe to fire with standard ammo. ANTIQUE no FFL Req. - Value: 150 to 300
