Description

JOHN WAYNE'S ''THE ALAMO'' MOVIE PROP, Remington, Model: 1897 No.5 Rolling block, 7 x 57mm Mauser, MFG: 1896-1901, S/N: None, Single shot rifle, 30'' barrel. This Rifle was used in the movie ''The Alamo'', which was produced by John Wayne's production company Batjac Productions. It is marked ''BATJAC'' on left side of the wrist. This was a stand in prop for a muzzleloader.

CONDITION: the straight wrist wood stock is very good with nicks, dings, dents, scratches & wear from use/age. There are a few small & tight cracks around the lower tang on the wrist as well as a small splice repair. ''BATJAC'' has been stamped into the left side of the wrist. The right cheek has ''KDM'' had etched into it. The metal has toned to a dull gray with areas of cleaned pitting & roughness, parts of the metal are starting to tone to a brown patina. There are a bunch of gouging cuts on the top of the barrel around the front sight. The top of the barrel is marked ''7M.M- S.M.''. The upper tang on the wrist is marked ''REMINGTON ARMS COMPANY ILION.N.Y.'', & a bunch of patent dates. The bore is very good. Its bright with strong rifling & spots of roughness. The front post is missing but the base is present. The barrel holds a tangent/ladder U-notch rear sight. Rifle has both sling loops & has a cleaning rod. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 500 to 1000
