Remington, Model 1875 Single Action Army Revolver, CAL: 44-40, MFG: 1875-88, SN: 250, Single Action Revolver, 7 1/2'' barrel. The 1875 Army was based upon the successful Remington Model 1858. Both revolvers have the same size, appearance, & the removable cylinder. The 1875 Remington differed from the older 1858 percussion model by being chambered for metallic cartridges. In 1875 Remington entered the cartridge revolver market, intending to compete with Colt's line of revolvers. Colt had already secured contracts with the U.S. Army, & Remington was forced to seek other markets. The U.S. government purchased fewer than 650 for use by Indian police, & another 1,000 were sold to the Mexican government. Approximately 30-40k produced over a 14 year period. This revolver was expertly restored at one time. The walnut grips are excellent, having been lightly sanded, with an added layer of protective oils or mild finish. The restored nickel finish is very good, with appx 90% coverage. There is consistent light spotting, speckling & cleaned pitting throughout. Bore is good, still fairly bright for it's age, with consistent roughness & pitting towards the muzzle. Small notch rear sight & blade front sight. Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 2000 to 4000
