Allen & Wheelock, Sidehammer Lipfire Revolver, CAL: 32 LF, MFG: 1850's-early 60's, SN: 24, Single Action Revolver, 5'' octagon barrel. The left side of the barrel is marked ''ALLEN & WHEELOCK. WORCHESTER.MA.US'' over, ''ALLEN'S PAT'S SEPT 7 NOV 9 1858 JULY 3 1860''. The SN can be seen on the left side of the frame under the trigger guard, bottom of the barrel, top of the cylinder pin, on the side of the cylinder stop & on the inside of both grips. The original wood grips are very good & solid. There are minor handling marks, with flaking finish. The metal blue finish on the barrel rates 20%, mostly worn to metal gray & toned to a brown patina. The metal blue finish on the frame has fully worn to metal gray & toned to a brown patina, with remnants of blue in heavily protected areas. Bore is very good & bright, with intermittent spotting & light pitting. Rear groove & brass blade front sight. Internal parts issue, the cylinder does not rotate & the hammer can't be fully cocked. Manually disengaging the cylinder stop will allow the user to fully cock the hammer & the cylinder will turn. The Sidehammer Lipfire revolver in a rather unique design with an overhead rack & pinion ejector system. The revolver is only made in the 32 LF caliber & with a barrel length of either 4, 5 or 6". Most of these revolvers were manufactured in the Allen & Wheelock period, with some being produced by Ethan Allen & Co. Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 150 to 450
