RARE!! Kongsberg Vapenfabrik M1914 ''Kongsberg Colt'', Cal: 11.35mm (.45 ACP), MFG: 1926, S/N: 9576, Semi-auto Pistol, 5'' barrel.
HISTORY: In 1904 Norway started testing new semi-automatic designs to replace their earlier M1893 Nagant Revolver, the testing would go on until 1911 when the commission recommended adoption of the semi-automatic .38 ACP caliber Colt Military Model 1902 pistol, However, as the US had just adopted the Colt .45ACP M1911 pistol it was decided to conduct further tests. A pistol of the new M1911 design was received in Norway in January 1913. Following extensive tests through early 1914, it was finally decided, in August 1914, to adopt the Colt M1911 pistol in Norway. While the M1911 is known as a colt & was produced by them in the US, the designer and copyright owner was John Browning who had licensed manufacturing in the US to Colt. Norway attempted to get licensing through Colt, but European production was through Fabrique Nationale. Norway would talk to FN & in September 1914, Norway signed a contract with Fabrique Nationale for manufacture. The Kongsberg Colt remained in service with the Norwegian Armed Forces until being replaced by the Glock P80 in 1985.
Condition: The checkered double diamond, wood grips are very good with wear, small dings, & scratches. The blued metal finish rates 80% overall with spots of holster wear at the end of the slide, finish thinning from hand wear, & various small scratches nicks, & wear spots from military use. The left side of the slide is marked with two Norwegian crown proofs, ''11.25m/m AUT. PISTOL M/1914'', & the S/N. the left side of the frame is marked with the S/N. the right side of the slide is marked ''1926'' & a proof mark. All Serialized parts are MATCHING other than the barrel which is a surplus GI, Colt M1911A1 barrel. The bore is Good its bright with worn, but still visible rifling. The slide holds a blade front sight with a U-notch rear sight. Pistol comes with one mag that has a lanyard loop, no markings. A nice example of miliary pistol with honest wear from use. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 1000 to 2500
