RARE Winchester, Model 70 Transition Era Super Grade, marked 22 HORNET, MFG. 1948, SN: 77966, Bolt Action Rifle, 24'' Tapered round barrel, Pre-64, This rifle in addition to being a ''Super Grade'' & chambered in a rarer & the more collectable 22 Hornet, is rare in that it was produced during the ''Transition'' period because of its ''Transition'' safety lever, which occurred from 1946-48 & within serial numbers 60,000 to 100,000. This typically adds an addition 10 to 20% premium to its value. Super Grade specimens typically demand a 100% premium over standard grade examples for the same caliber. This rifle has been fully & professionally restored. The factory deluxe walnut wood stock has the Super Grade raised cheek piece, deluxe wraparound checkering, black cap pistol grip & ebony forend tip. Condition is excellent, with a few minor contusions & light scratches remaining to the finely refinished wood stock. The restored metal blue finishes rate 97% overall. Floorplate carries the ''Super Grade'' marking. Some of the markings or roll stamps have thinned as a result of the prep for metal finishing. Bore is excellent, shiny & bright. Barrel carries a blank filled rear dovetail & hooded front sight. Stock carries the factory checkered widow's peak metal buttplate & sling loop mounting bases. Bolt has matching SN electric penciled atop previous marking which has been defaced. A fairly rare & nicely restored Super Grade collectible rifle. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 2000 to 4000
