CUSTOM Bolt Rifle, FN 98 GEW Mauser Action, CAL: 244 REM, MFG: 1960's (action), SN: 42062, Bolt Action Rifle, 24'' Tapered round barrel. The rifle was expertly & custom built by famous gunmaker Al Biesen of Spokane WA, as stamped on the barrel. Al was a charter member of the Custom Gunmakers Guild. Al initially built his reputation as a gunmaker for the Columbia Gun Company of Wisconsin, which was well known for quality crafted firearms, but eventually went out of business in the 1950's. While there, he built several rifles for the famous Jack O'Connor. Jack became a lifetime friend & often spoke of Al's fine craftmanship. Al's fabulous craftmanship & Jack's proclaiming of his fine firearms, helped build Al's lifetime reputation as one of the finest custom gunmaker. After the closing CGC, Al moved to Spokane WA, where he continued to build expertly crafted custom firearms, often for famous clients like Jack & others. The custom deluxe, checkered, cheeked & capped pistol grip Monte Carlo stock on this rifle is excellent. With it's ebony forend tip & other characteristics, it was obviously inspired by a Winchester model 70 Super Grade stock, which was also the style Jack preferred on his custom built rifles. The hand carved & no border, wrap around, fine checkering is excellent. There are a few minor handling marks or rubs to the excellent high gloss finish. The bolt handle, metal pistol grip cap & buttplate are fine checkered, with the buttplate having a hinged trapdoor opening into a storage compartment. The custom barrel is stamped ''Al Biesen Gunmaker Spokane WN'' (I guess WN was his abbreviation for Washington) & caliber marking. The high polish metal blue finishes on the barrel & receiver rates 99%. Bore is excellent. The receiver carries a Leupold Westerner 8X scope, Leupold being the scope he often used after friend Jack O'Connor had told him it was his favorite & was the scope he requested be mounted on all the rifles Al built for O'Connor. The barrel has no open sight provisions. Jeweled bolt & magazine follower. Sling studs. An overall excellent, beautiful & finely crafted custom rifle. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 3000 to 6000
