Remington, Model 8 Deluxe or possible ''C'', 30 REM CAL (marked 30-30 Rem), MFG. 1907, SN: 8546, Semi-Auto Rifle, 22'' barrel. Although this rifle fires a .30 Rem rimless cartridge, it carries the original early & rarer .30-30 caliber marking. Remington tried to utilize the 30-30 marking to take advantage of the popularity of Winchester's 30-30 caliber. They were quickly forced to change their caliber marking to .30 Rem on later examples, as these rifles would not accept the rimmed 30-30 cartridges. This makes this early caliber marked rifle even rarer beyond it being a factory deluxe example. The original deluxe checkered & straight grip wood stocks are excellent & solid. The original finish has thinned & has been reoiled, which has darkened the wood. The hand checkering has worn, smoothing the points, but all lines remain. The inside of the forend is not stamped with a ''3'' or ''C'' for grade confirmation, which is not uncommon, but it is difficult to tell if this is a true grade ''3'' or ''C'' grade deluxe or simply an ''A'' grade that was factory upgraded with checkering. , that would have cost the customer an additional $5 at the time of ordering. Sometimes collectors refer to these ''A'' grade rifle with factory checkering as deluxe rifles. This rifle does displays a bit of wave to the grain & does carry 20 lines per inch checkering with borders. There is a 1'' grain crack emanating from the buttend at the top of the comb. The upper left back corner of the forend has a small corner repair. Being an earlier production rifle & a deluxe, the stock carries the remains of cheeks at the wrist, which have worn down & edge rounded with use. There are minor scrapes, scratches & contusions to the stocks. The original metal blue finish remains at 80% on the barrel, 70% on the receiver & 40% in the areas of the belly of receiver, mag & trigger guard. Thinning areas of blue are developing a thin brown patina. The barrel shroud does have a fairly large dent about 9'' from the muzzle a bit right of center. The receiver once carried a tang sight, which has been removed & factory hole does have filler screw. The barrel has a standard adjustable rear sight & a Marble no. 2 ivory bead front blade sight, which is missing half the bead. Bore is very good, bright & clean. Stock carries the Remington plastic buttplate. 5 rd fixed magazine. Tight action. A rare & very nice checkered rifle in the rare & collectible 30-30 caliber marking. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 1200 to 2000
