Remington, Model 8, .25 Rem Cal (marked 25-35 Rem), MFG. 1918, SN: 40103, Semi-Auto Rifle, 22'' barrel. Although this rifle fires a .25 Rem rimless cartridge, it carries the original early & rarer .25-35 caliber marking. Remington tried to utilize the 25-35 marking to take advantage of the popularity of Winchester's 25-35 caliber. They were quickly forced to change their caliber marking to .25 Rem on later examples, as these rifles would not accept the rimmed 25-35 cartridges. This makes this early caliber marked rifle even rarer than the fairly rare standard .25. The original straight grip & schnabel forend stocks are excellent, with both appearing to carry the original finish. The forend however does have a layer of added finish over the original. There are minor scuffs, scratches & contusions to the wood, & some spotty dark areas on the left side of the stock. There is a tiny edge chip at the toe, likely from being dropped on the toe, which also broke the plastic buttplate into three, now glue repaired pieces. The original metal blue finish rates 90% on the receiver, 80% on the barrel, with some minor spots of rust, mainly found on the left side of receiver. The safety lever has slack or is a bit loose, but still functions. Additionally, for some unknown reason there are numerous small ticks or ping abrasions on the safety lever & to the receiver in the surrounding area. Bore is good. Barrel is fitted with a folding leaf rear sight on rectangular base & a modern large blade front sight. 5 round fixed magazine. Tight action. Rare early caliber marking makes this rifle still very collectible. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 700 to 1000
