Winchester, Model 60A Sporter, Early Variation, CAL: 22 S.L.LR, MFG: 1932-39, SN: NONE, Bolt Action Rifle, 23'' barrel. This design started as the Model 58 in 1928 as the replacement for the popular Model 1902 & 1904 .22 cal. single shot rifles. It was updated & became the model 60 in 1931 & then later the model 60A, which was almost identical except the Model 60A has a chrome plated bolt, bolt handle & trigger. The Model 60A, introduced in 1932, had two variants, the Sporter & the Target. The Sporter retained the 23'' barrel length, while the Target had the 27'' barrel. The Model 60A was discontinued in 1939 with only about 6,100 of the Sporter & Target combined being sold. This particular rifle is the earliest variation of the 60A Sporter having the finger grooved forend. Making this already rare rifle even rarer. The original flat pistol grip walnut stock is excellent, with several minor contusions, scratches & scrapes to the original finish. The original metal blue finish has worn mostly gun metal gray, with a thin brown patina. Bore is excellent & bright. Barrel carries an adjustable rear & blade front sights. Original Winchester buttplate. The receiver has two holes on the left side from previous scope mount, with the rear hole being filled with a screw. The stock has a slim sliver of wood removed against the receiver below the scope holes likely needed for the placement of the scope mount. The stock also has open holes from removed scope slings. Still a collectible example due to the scarcity. FFL or C&R - Value: 300 to 600
