The Hamilton Rifle Co. Model 027 (Tip-up Model), 22 CAL (S. & L.), MFG: 1907-30, SN: NONE, Single Shot, Tip-up Break Action Rifle, 14 7/8'' round barrel. 29 1/2'' overall length. Circa 1906 through 1940's Cloverine Salve ran ads in comic books & newspapers asking kids to sell their salve & offering awards for the amount of product sold. The prizes include such pieces as this Hamilton rifle, a Red Ryder BB gun, toys & more. One of the first rifles offered in the Cloverine ads was the Hamilton Model 27 rifle. Other companies duplicated these award driven sales opportunities for kids selling magazines, seeds & other household items. The oval board, straight grip, wood stocks on this example are good. They carry the original finish, which is thinning from use. The stocks also display a variety of scratches, dings & edge wear, along with some shapes scratched into the wood on the left side of stock. The forend has a wood fill crack & missing chunk repair that runs along the bottom of the forend. Original metal blue finish has worn mostly gun metal gray, with spotty areas of thin brown patina. Steel rolled barrel over brass bore liner, 12 groove bore with 1 turn in 16''. Bore is poor, with deep roughness amongst remains of well worn rifling. Blade front & early rear sight combination.
