J.P Gemmer, Model 730, CAL: 10GA, MFG: 1890's-1915, SN: 39, Break Action SxS Shotgun, 30'' Laminated Steel barrels. The side plates are marked ''J.P GEMMER''. Birmingham proof marks on the water table. The barrel rib is marked ''JP GEMMER SANT LOUIS MO LAMINATED STEEL''. The original checkered round knob pistol grip & ebony tip forend are good & solid. There are a couple popped grains, edges chips, thin checkering, scrapes, dings & darkening from protective oils added over time. There is a blank silver shield nameplate in the belly of the stock. The laminated steel barrels have fully toned to a brown patina, with consistent spotting. The receiver & side plates have worn to metal gray & toned to a brown patina. The receiver, side plates, trigger guard, hammers, break lever & forend release lever all display ornamental scroll engraving. Some areas of the engraving are beginning to wear thin. There are bid vignettes on both side plates, behind the hammers. Bores are fair, rough, with pitting near the chamber. The solid rib holds a single front bead. Stock has a carved & checkered hard rubber buttplate, with a couple edge chips. Hammers & triggers function properly & lock up tight. Break lever has to be manually reset to the middle after breaking the barrels. In the mid 1800's Gemmer & a group of gunsmiths took over the Hawken shop in St. Louis. He went on to run the business until 1915, before passing in 1919. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 800 to 1300
