RARE Winchester Model 21- 1 Custom Grade, Two Barrel Set. CAL: 20 GA, MFG: 1931-90, SN: W33139, Break Action SxS Shotgun, Barrel Set 1: 28'' Winchester Proof Steel, with raised matted ventilated rib, white mid bead & red front bead, Top of rib engraved ''CUSTOM BUILT BY WINCHESTER FOR G.L. ELLIOT''. Left tube stamped ''WINCHESTER 20 GAUGE 3 IN CHAM''. Bottom of tubes with choke markings ''FULL/FULL''. Jeweled barrel flats, with SN & Winchester proof marks. Barrel set 2: Made exactly the same as set 1, but 26'' barrels & choke markings ''CYL/MOD''. Both barrel sets carry their own original, fine hand checkered in point pattern, beavertail forends, with rounded triangular ebony tips. Matching SN stamped on forend steel & wood. The deluxe grade, fancy walnut stock displays fantastic rippled & feathered grain. The straight grip features a fine hand checkering & gold oval on belly with the initials ''GLE'' engraved onto it. The stock carries a checkered Winchester plastic buttplate. The stock has water damage, which has caused the finish on the lower half of the stock to crinkle & flake away. There is some black staining in the area as well & a couple of small edge chips in the darkened areas on each side of the comb. The receiver features 21-1 pattern hand engraving of scrolls & border detailing. This pattern provides about 25% coverage. Then engraving extends onto the trigger guard & steel portions of the forend. The metal blue finish on the receiver is toning a beautiful plum, rating 99%, with some light speckling on the belly of the receiver. The barrels appear to carry the original blued finishes, with 98% coverage & loss due to spotty areas of corrosion. The 26'' bores are excellent, while the 28'' bores are very good, with use striations. The shotgun weighs 6lbs 9 1/2 oz with the 26'' barrels. LOP is 13 7/8'', DAC 1 1/2'', DAH 2 1/2''. With approximately only 40,000 Model 21 shotguns produced in all grade & all model 21's being custom ordered, they are often considered the pinnacle of Winchester shotgun collecting. This example has great bones & can be used & enjoyed in its present condition, or taken to an expert professional restorer to recapture its full beauty. FFL Req. - Value: 5000 to 10000
