PROMINENCE Remington, Model 870 Wingmaster, CAL: 20 GA, MFG: Modern, SN: 1063043X, Pump Action Shotgun, 2 3/4'' or shorter, Choke: MOD, 28'' barrel. This shotgun came from the estate of Swing-Era Icon Artie Shaw, when it was sold over a decade ago at a California auction. Artie Shaw (born Arthur Jacob Arshawsky; May 23, 1910 - Dec. 30, 2004, was an American clarinetist, composer, bandleader, actor & author of both fiction & non-fiction. Widely regarded as ''one of jazz's finest clarinetists'', Shaw led one of the United States' most popular big bands in the late 1930s - early 40s. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 44, during which time he led a morale-building band that toured the South Pacific. After the war, Shaw continued in music & in Hollywood, but as the decades passed, he eventually grew tired of the limelight & sought quieter ways to enjoy his life. He always enjoyed shooting & in 1962, at age 52, he was a precision marksman ranking fourth in the U.S. He passed in 2004 at the age of 94. The original checkered & capped pistol grip wood stocks are excellent. They exhibit crisp checkering, with minor handling blemishes to the original finish. The original metal blue finish rates 98% overall. Bore is excellent. The barrel carries a silver front bead. Stock carries a Remington buttplate, LOP: 14''. Comes with the original auction catalog from the auctioning of his firearm estate. FFL Req. - Value: 800 to 1500
