ENGRAVED Marlin, Model 1898 ''C'' Grade, CAL: 12 GA, MFG: 1898, SN: 9166, Pump Action Shotgun, Full, 30'' barrel. The stock is a same model standard grade replacement, not checkered, but with scalped pistol grip. Fit is good & solid. The stock has a thin rubber replaced buttplate with a LOP of 12 3/4''. It appears to carry an added layer of finish over the original, it some orange peel to the finish. The forearm is the original deluxe checkered, but has several cracks & has a large missing chunk from the left rear side. The stocks have numerous small scratches, scrapes & contusions. The metal surfaces have worn mostly gray, with some remains of original blue in the most protected areas. The barrel marked on top ''MARLIN FIRE-ARMS CO,. NEW-HAVEN, CT. U.S.A. / PAT'D NOV. 6. 1894. MAY 12. 1896. & JUNE 2. 1896.'' & marked on the left side ''SPECIAL SMOKELESS STEEL'' & SN ''9166''. The receiver is hand engraved with fine scrolls on both sides, with the left side having a large panel scene of a flock of five mallards over a marsh; while the right side haves two grouse. The SN is stamped on bottom of action, with engraved foliage & scrolls surrounding it. Bore is very good. Barrel carries a single front bead. This gun's action is extremely stiff & may have an unknown problem beyond needing a good cleaning & some adjustment. We recommend this shotgun visit a gunsmith before attempting to use & is therefore being sold ''AS IS'', with NO RETURN! ANTIQUE, No FFL Req - Value: 200 to 500
