Springfield Armory, Model: 1884 Trapdoor (1873 marked breech), Cal: .45-70, MFG: 1887, S/N: 346806, single shot rifle, 32 '' barrel. The straight wrist walnut stock is excellent with only small minor nicks, dings, & scratches. Left side of wrist has a ''SWP'', ''1886'' in box cartouche. The belly of the stock is marked with the circle ''P'' proof cartouche. The blued metal finish on the barrel rates 90% with concentrated wear at the muzzle. The case-hardened finish on the breech block rates 90% with light wear & patina speckling. The top of the breech block is marked ''US'', ''MODEL'', ''1873''. Springfield would use up old 1873 marked breech blocks on the new 1884 Model. 1884 marked breech blocks would start coming out mid to late 1887. The rear of the receiver is marked with the S/N. the left side of the barrel is marked ''V'', ''P'', over eagles head, ''R'', ''P''. the top of the barrel is marked ''A''. the lock plate is marked with the American great eagle, ''U.S.'' ''SPRINGFIELD''. The bore is excellent. Its bright with very little wear. The barrel holds a blade front sight with protective hood, & a Buffington ladder rear sight. The stock carries a blued steel buttplate, has wear & small spots of patina. Rifle has both sling loops & the third stacking swivel. Rifle also has cleaning/clearing rod. A beautiful, high condition trapdoor Springfield. Antique, no FFL Req. - Value: 1000 to 2000
