R.E. Terni, M1891 Carcano infantry rifle, Cal: 6.5x52mm Carcano, MFG: 1918, S/N: IR3788, Bolt action rifle, 30 5/8'' barrel. The straight wrist walnut stock is very good with numerus nicks, dings, & scratches from use/age. The left cheek of the stock is marked with a faded Terni Arsenal military acceptance stamp with the date ''18'' (1918), & its marked with the S/N. the blued metal finish on the receiver rates 75% with spots of wear/thinning & brown patina. The barrels finish rates 70% with thinning, brown patina, & light rust speckling. The left side of the receiver is marked with a small proof. The rear of the barrel is marked ''18'', ''Terni'', the S/N, & two small proofs. S/N mismatched bolt. The bore is very good. Its bright with spots of light roughness. The rifling on M91 Carcano (all pre M38) is a unique gain twist style of rifling. Where the twist rate starts slow & speeds up further down the barrel. It was done to help stop early throat erosion on the barrels. The later M38 models would use standard constant rifling as they realized it was a problem with the bullets & powder rather than the rifling. The barrel holds a tall barleycorn front sight with a tangent, deep V-notch rear sight marked 6 to 20. the stock carries a steel buttplate that's toned to a brown patina. Rifle has both sling swivels & has a cleaning rod. Rifle also comes with the correct m1891 Bayonet with sheath. Bayonet is S/N: 8537. a nice all original configuration Carcano long rifle.
