National Rifle Factory Delf, Netherlands, Model: M1871/88 Beaumont, Cal: 11 x 52mmR, MFG: 1873, S/N: Z839, bolt action rifle. 32 3/8'' barrel.
HISTORY: in the 1860s, the Netherlands saw all the other European nations start adopting breech loading rifles. the Dutch Officials wanting to modernized would start converting their muzzleloaders into breechloader with the Snider-Enfield system starting in 1867. They would trial many different single shot rifle designs from around the world, & in 1870 they would select Edouard de Beaumonts rifle, where it would be adopted in 1871. Later in 1888, wanting to modernized their military again, these rifles would be upgraded with a Vitali Magazine, along with a multitude of other smaller things.
CONDITION: The straight wrist wood stock is excellent as being sanded & re-finished. Stock has a few minor nicks & dings. The metal has worn/toned to a mix of brown rust patina & gun metal gray. The top of the receiver band is marked with the S/N. the left side of the receiver has two small proofs. Left side of the barrel is marked ''792'', & has a SSN electro penciled into it. The top of the barrel is marked with a small proof, ''1873'', & more small proofs. The top tang of the buttplate is marked ''1890'', ''792''. All parts S/N matching other than the barrel. The bore is good. Its bright but has slightly thinned rifling, roughness, & spots of light pitting. The barrel holds a tall barleycorn front sight with a tangent V-notch rear sight marked 3 to 18 on the base. The stock carries a steel buttplate that's toned to a brown patina. Rifle has both sling loops & the cleaning/clearing rod. Antique, no FFL Req - Value: 200 to 500
