German (Uruguay), Model: K Mod 71/94 Dovitis Mauser carbine, Cal: 6.5x53.5mmSR Daudeteau. MFG: 1879, S/N: 9513, Bolt action single shot rifle. 31 1/2'' barrel.
HISTORY: more history can be seen on the Dovitis Mauser on the previous lot. When Dovitis bought the 71 Mauser the vast majority were long rifles, with them being converted into a mix of long rifles & carbines, just depending on what barrel & bolt they put on the rifle. This is a rare example of the few Karabiner's that were converted, noted by the ''K.Mod 71'' marking. Combined with having a S/N matching bolt, this is a rare find.
CONDITION: the straight wrist wood stock is very good with nicks, dings, dents, scratches & wear from use/age. Metal is proud to the wood in one spot on the lower tang & on the toe. The metal has mostly worn gray with areas toning brown. Chamber areas has spots of rust. The left side of the receiver is marked with the S/N, ''K.Mod.71.''. Right side of the receiver is marked with three imperial German proofs, ''1879''. The top of the barrel is marked ''L.F.t.P'', ''St. Denis''. S/N matching bolt, all other parts are mismatched. The bore is very good. Its bright with strong rifling with small spots of roughness. The barrel holds a barleycorn front sight with a stepped base/ladder V-notch rear sight. Base marked 2 to 10, ladder marked 12 to 20. The stock carries a bare steel buttplate, has brown patina speckling. Rifle has bottom sling loop & forward sling ring. Rifle has cleaning rod. A nice handy carbine with a unique story & interesting markings. Antique no FFL Req. - Value: 600 to 2000
