HISTORY: The Wehrmann-Buchse Modell 98, sometimes called Wehrmannsgewehr. These were target rifles made by Mauser for the German commercial market. They were modeled off the German standard military arm of the time the GEW 98, that was also made by Mauser. They were made both before & after WW1. Some of the rifles were converted from surplus rifles but most were newly made by Mauser Precisely for target shooting at 175 meters & 300 Meters, the standard German competition distances of the time. Often these rifles would have sights that would go out to only 300 meters, but sometimes they will have the standard military rear sight like this rifle. Some of these rifles were also set up as single shots, this one does have a magazine. The marking on the barrel is the designation for the cartridge, BL.G is for Bleigeschoss (Lead Bullet). The 8.15 x 46mmR cartridge was a very popular target round at the time, & was chambered in many different guns. It was perfectly suited for target shooting in the inner city's or small ranges that was common in Germany around that time. A excellent example of a German target rifle. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 1000 to 2000
