F.B. Radom (Polish), Model: kbk wz.29, Cal: 7.92x57mm (8mm Mauser), MFG: 1937, S/N: 53795P, bolt action rifle, 24'' barrel. The semi-pistol grip wood stock is very good with nicks, scratches, dings, grain pops & arsenal repairs. The right cheek of the stock is marked with a faint cartouche. The front of the semi-pistol grip is marked with two circle proofs & a Polish eagle proof. The belly of the stock has a worn & faint S/N stamp. The belly of the stock behind the rear sling swivel is marked ''19''. The blued finish on the barrel & receiver rates 90% with areas of light thinning, scratches, & brown patina. The left side of the receiver is marked with the S/N, ''wz.29''. The top of the receiver band is marked with a large Polish eagle, ''F.B.'', ''RADOM'', ''1937'', & a smaller Polish eagle proof near the right side. The rear sight & buttplate are S/N matched. The bolt appears to be out of a German K98k, has mismatched S/N with a German block letter (434 i), has German Waffenamt on bolt body/parts, & a small German eagle on the bolt handle. The bore is excellent. Bright & mirror like with minor roughness in a few spots. The barrel holds a barleycorn front sight with protective ears, & a tangent V-notch rear sight marked 3 to 20 on the top of ladder, & 3 to 20 on the bottom of ladder. The stock carries a blued steel buttplate with finish wear on top & bottom of plate. Rifle has cleaning rod. Has both side & bottom sling mounts. Firing pin disassembly disk in stock. FFL or C&R Req.
HISTORY: Production of the kbk wz.29 was done at the National Arms Factory in Radom between 1930 & September 1939 when the Germans invade. 264,000 were rifles produced of two models, a infantry model with a straight bolt handle, & a cavalry model with a bent handle. Some of these rifles were sold & exported to Spain & Afghanistan. Most of these rifles would be captured by the Germans after the surrender of Poland. Existing rifles would be put into German service with little to no modification since its close resemblance to the German K98k, these rifles would be called Gewehr 298 (p) in German service. The Germans would start production of the rifles again at the captured Radom factory under Steyr control, but would be modified exactly to K98k specs & would be marked G29/40. The K98k bolt in the rifle leads me to believe this rifle was refurbished by Germans later on & the cutout in the stock could have been done by them for use of a bent bolt handle, or it was originally a cavalry model so the stock already had the cutout. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 1000 to 2000
