SCARCE, The Washington Arms Co. (Marston), Bar Hammer 6-Shot Pepperbox, CAL: 32, MFG: 1850's-60's, SN: 967, Double Action Revolver, 2 3/8'' barrel cluster. The top of the hammer is marked with a circled ''C'' & ''THE WASHINGTON ARMS CO.'' The original wood grips are very good, having been lightly sanded & refinished. There are smoothed contusions, scrapes & dings, with an added layer of finish. The barrel cluster has fully worn to metal gray & toned to a brown patina. The frame has also worn to metal gray, with spotting toned to a brown patina. The frame & backstrap have simple decorative engraving. Bores are fair to poor, with some being more rough than others. Nipple condition is good to very good, with all nipples in tact & the shape has held strong, the tops aren't flattened out like some others. Mechanical operations appear to function properly. The hammer raises & cylinder rotates when the hammer is pulled. Timing appears correct. After 1851, such firms as Manhattan Firearms Manufacturing Co. & William Marston offered double action pepperboxes which were virtually identical to those by Allen. Marston marketed some under such trade names as Washington Arms, Union Arms, and Phenix Armory. Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 500 to 900
