French (St. Etienne), Model 1816 Cavalry Percussion Conversion, CAL: 69, MFG: 1821, SN: 138, Single Action Percussion, 7'' barrel.
HISTORY: This originally made flintlock pistol was converted to percussion, c.1840. Most manufacturers transitioned from flintlock to percussion arms between 1830 & 1840.
MARKINGS: Lock plate: ''Mre Rle de St. Etienne'', ''STAR/T?'', ''CROWN/S'', & two numbers stamped into the top of the lock plate ''17?'' & ''19'' or ''61''. Right side of the barrel: ''1821''. Left side of barrel: ''138'' under ''S.1821 C.de 17-6A''. There is also a small proof mark 1/4'' from the stock on the barrel. Barrel tang: ''1816'' with proof mark. Left side of stock ''138'' / ''? Proof''/ cursive ''Regnaud''. Top of stock: ''CROWN/L'' proof. Ramrod: ''138'', with proofs. Brass components: ''STAR/H''? & ''MC''?. Inside trigger guard: ''STAR/H'' proof, next to ''I''.
CONDITION: The original wood stock is excellent. There are contusions, scrapes & dings to the finish. The barrel & lock plate have worn to metal gray, been cleaned, & have spotting/intermittent pitting toned to a brown patina. The brass hardware has a thin aged patina, with handling marks & dings. Fixed rear sight & round ball front sight with small bead on top. Lanyard loop present. A pre-Civil War French Cavalry pistol. Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 500 to 900
