Description

Colt, Model: M1911A1, ''UNITED STATES PROPERTY''. Cal: .45 ACP, MFG: 1942, S/N: 785071, Semi-auto pistol, 5'' barrel. A WWII military pistol. The inspector stamp of W.B. is for Colonel Waldemar S. Broberg. He was the Army Inspector of Ordnance from July 1st, 1941 to June 16th, 1942 in the Hartford/Springfield Ordnance District. This pistol is part of the last batch he approved his last month. The gun is also right during the transition era of when the finish went from ''Brushed Blue'' to being parkerized. The ''Coltwood'' plastic grips are excellent & sharp. The rearsenaled metal blue finish rates 99% overall. The darker tone on the front 1/3 of the slide is from that part being hardened to help increase its strength, leading to the metal holding onto the bluing better than the un-hardened section. The left side of the slide is marked with Colt's patent dates, the Rampant Colt logo, & ''COLT'S PT.F.A.MFG.CO.'', ''HARTFORD.CT.U.S.A.''. The right side of the frame is marked ''UNITED STATES PROPERTY'', ''M1911A1 U.S. ARMY'', the S/N, & a ''74'' on the trigger guard. The left side of the frame is marked with the ''WB'' inspector stamp by the slide catch. There is a ''P'' mark by the mag release button, which is just a basic proof mark. The left side of the trigger guard is marked with a ''8'', & a ''VP'' in a triangle stamp, which is the Colt verified proof factory inspection stamp. The bore is excellent, bright & mirror like. The slide holds the small half moon blade front sight, with a U-notch rear sight. Pistol comes with a single blued mag. An overall excellent example of a WWII U.S. Property Colt & one of the last blued M1911's for the military. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 1500 to 2500
