RARE!! Camillus Cutlery Co., USMC Raider Stiletto with correct leather sheath. Designed by then Lieutenant Colonel Clifford H. Shuey, this was the first knife in United States Marine Corps history to be designed by a U.S. Marine Corps officer. Shuey mostly copied the Scottish Fairbairn-Sykes pattern, but he changed the material specifications of parts, most notably the handle being made from a die-cast zinc aluminum alloy, to reduce the need of hard to get & expensive materials. This change in material result in durability problems for the Raider stiletto in service. The knife was designed in 1942 and officially issued on a selective basis to the Marines, with priority to elite units such as the Raiders. Only 14,370 of the knives were made, a drop in the bucket to the 2.5 million M3 Fighting knife's made, & millions more fighting knives that were made for the military. Knife has a checkered metal grip, unfinished blade, right side of blade is faintly marked ''CAMILUS'', ''CUTLERY'', ''CO.'', ''CAMILUS'', ''N.Y.''. Tip is slightly bent. Blade has spots of light patina, metal grip has light patina to it. The leather sheath has metal staples at the throat, dark satins & spots of metal corrosion. A rare, elegant, well balanced nice with great history. Grade: Excellent - Value: 500 to 3000
