WONDERFUL NICKELED ENGRAVED Winchester, Model 1873 SRC, Third Variation, .44 Cal., MFG. 1883, SN: 134055B, Lever Action Rifle, 20'' Round barrel, Full mag, The factory wood stocks are very good & solid, but have been sanded & refinished. The stock has a nicely inlayed wood plug where a sling swivel base once resided & there are numerous small nicks & dings. The Cody Winchester Factory records will most likely indicate this gun is a standard carbine, however, it currently presents as a FULL NICKEL ENGRAVED carbine. It is believed this gun was purchased & then quickly commissioned to be nickeled & engraved as the prize for a gun shoot at Fort Yates in North Dakota. It is engraved ''FORT YATES DAKOTA'' on the left side of the receiver & ''DECEMBER 24, 1883'' on the right. Coincidently, this is the same year Sitting Bull was transferred from Fort Randall Dakota Territory to Fort Yates Dakota. The receiver is wonderfully & highly detailed with scroll & punch dot engraving, which covers receiver, tangs, barrel, buttplate, dust cover & barrel bands. The metal surfaces carry a FULL NICKEL plating which is excellent & appears original to the 1883 custom upgrade. The bore is excellent, bright & shinny with strong rifling. Carbine carries the original flip-up rear sight & original carbine front sight. The stock fitted with a carbine buttplate with sliding trapdoor with a 3 piece cleaning rod underneath. The receiver has the original saddle ring. A wonderful & aesthetically sharp fully nickeled & highly engraved 1873 carbine.* No FFL Req. - Value: 10000 to 20000
