Haenel Aydt, Model German Schuetzen, 8.15 X 46R Cal., MFG. 1890-1925, SN: 9960, Lever Action Rifle, 31 3/4'' Octagon barrel, with matted top. Haenel Aydt was a well known German maker of what we would term a drop lock type Schuetzen style actions, or what the Germans refer to as a swinging-block action. The Aydt system was the most widely used in German target rifles during the late 19th-early 20th century, with the most popular chambering being the 8.15x46. The factory checkered walnut stock carries a massive cheekpiece & thumb rest, along with a Schuetzen prong style buttplate. The wedge-fastened Schnabel style forend also carries factory checkering & beavertail cheeks. The wood stocks have been professionally refinished & are excellent, with few scrapes, scuffs or scratches. The factory metal blue finish on barrel is 80%. The case-hardened receiver has faded mostly silver, with brown spotty patina & outlines of faded case-colors. The large spur & scroll lever drops the lock & displays case-colors amongst browning patina. The tang is fitted with a large disk, key adjusting peep sight, while the barrel carries a dog eared front sight. Barrel also incorporates a wider milled matted rib for potential scope mounting. Bore is excellent. Double set triggers & a removable trigger housing. Barrel & stock have sling swivels which carry a correct period leather sling.. A very unique & custom built target rifle.
