Winchester Model 1892, CAL: 25-20 WCF, MFG: 1931, SN: 999883, Lever Action Rifle, 22'' Round barrel, Button mag. This late model 1892 rifle is a bit of a mystery. The receiver has the 3 line 1892 trademark stamp on the upper tang. The lower tang & lever are of the curved Model 65 variety, with a factory Mod 65 flat pistol grip stock & forearm. It also carries a Mod 65 marked barrel. Barrel & receiver carry matching proof stamping. It could be that this is a late factory transition 1892 rifle using a remaining 1892 receiver with the new Mod 65 parts, or the rifle was fully updated later with the new model parts. Fit & finish of all parts is excellent & factory quality, making it appear factory done regardless of when the parts came together. The pistol grip wood stocks are very good, after a light sanding & nice refinish. The stock has a small wood chip missing at the left corner of receiver & upper tang. It has some oil or moisture black staining along the buttplate & minor scuffs or contusions. The original metal blue finish on the barrel is 95%, while the receiver is worn gun metal gray with a thin dusting of brown patina. Lever, hammer & buttplate also carry factory blue. Bore is excellent. Barrel fitted with factory adjustable rear & hooded ramp front sights. Stock fitted with a metal widow's peak shotgun buttplate. Smooth tight action. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 500 to 1000
