U.S. Springfield 1873 Forager Trapdoor shotgun, MFG Antique Circa 1881-1885, Cal. 20 Ga, SN:1319, Trapdoor breech loading single shot shotgun. 26'' round barrel. The black walnut stock with slim forend were made from Civil War musket stocks cut down to 28''. This straight grip one-piece stock has original mellowing patina. Some scratches & dings on underside of forearm. Light cartouche in block above trigger on left side. Barrel & receiver carry light grey/brown patina no remains of the original bluing or casehardening. ''US'' Stamp on top of buttpate. Front brass bead sight. Receiver was modified/enlarged to accept 20-gauge shell. Lockplate has three-line stamping ''U.S./SPRINGFIELD/1873'' with eagle motif in front of the hammer. Bore is good with some pitting. One of only 1,376 pieces produced. The last known Forager shotguns were issued to troops in Alaska in 1906. A rare complete & mechanicly tight example.* No FFL Req. - Value: 1000 to 2500
