1867 Swiss Peabody Rifle, Single shot, Cal. 10.4 x42mm rim fire, MFG Antique, SN: 13018 on exposed barrel under rear sight, Swiss SN under forearm & receiver: 25683. 32 3/4'' round barrel, Breech loading rifle. Peabody was developed during the American Civil War & tested very favorably against the competition. This is one of approximately 15,000 adopted by Switzerland in 1867, during Switzerland's transition from muzzle loaders to this breech loading technology. Walnut stock & forearm with very good, with original finish & some scratches & dings. Swiss cross over M on right side of stock & cartouche in block on left side above trigger. Barrel, receiver & other metal parts have toned to a gray/brown patina. The ''u'' under rear sight indicates modification with Swiss breechblock, firing pin & extractor. Address on left side of receiver reads ''PEABODYS PAT./JULY 22, 1862/MANFD BY/PROVIDENCE TOOL CO./PROV.R.I.''. When Swiss modified, the bore was relined & is very good & shiny w/some light scarring. Adjustable rear sight serialized with barrel # 13018. Missing cleaning rod. Tight action. No FFL Req. - Value: 1000 to 3000
