Description

W.J. Griffiths, 8 Ga Shotgun, CAL: 8GA, MFG: 1887-96 (based off proofs), S/N: 55398, Break Action Single Shot Shotgun, 39'' barrel. The straight wrist checkered wood stock is excellent as being sanded & re-finished. There are faint buff line on the left & right cheek of stock from when it was re-finished. There are a few spots where the metal is proud to the wood. The buttplate is also slightly proud to the wood at the toe. The checkering is still deep & present & not worn away. The forend has a horn cap. The metal finish on the frame has mostly worn away with a few spots of thinned bluing. The barrel has been re-blued & as such rates 85% with spots of brown patina, light thinning, & areas of light pitting under the new finish. The top of the barrel is marked ''W.J. GRIFFITHS MANCHESTER'', the right lock plate is marked ''W.GRIFFITHS''. The bore is very good. Its bright with some roughness. The barrel holds a bead front sight. The stock carries a aftermarket, smooth plastic buttplate. The rifle has one rear sling loop. A very nice large bore shotgun. Antique No FFL Req - Value: 2000 to 4000
