Description

Underwood, Model: M1 Carbine, Cal: .30 Carbine, MFG: 1943, S/N: 2779468, Semi-auto rifle, 18'' barrel. The type 4 M2, semi-pistol grip, wood stock is excellent with only a few minor nicks, dings, & scuff. ''78'' painted in white on bottom of semi-pistol grip. There are no other visible cartouches or stamps. The black phosphate/parkerized metal finish rates 95% on the receiver with areas of usual light. The black metal finish on the barrel rates 85% with light thinning. The rear of the receiver is marked ''UNDERWOOD'', & the S/N. the front of the receiver is marked ''U.S.CARBINE'', ''CAL.30M1''. The top end of the barrel is marked ''UNDERWOOD'', ''11-43'', & Flaming Bomb. The barrel band is marked ''JI''. The bore is very good. Its bright with intermittent roughness. The barrel holds a wide blade front sight with protective wings, the rear of receiver has a post WW2, fully adjustable aperture rear sight. The stock carries a checkered steel buttplate, with light rust & patina. Rifle has sling well in back of stock & a left mounted front sling swivel. This rifle went through a military arsenal evident by the bayonet lug, updated rear sight, the turn style safety, & the later M2 carbine stock. FFL or C&R Req - Value: 1500 to 3000
